A Little Princess

This book ‘A Little Princess’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett is about a girl named Sara Crewe. Her dad, Ralph Crewe is very rich. When Ralph has to go to India to work in a diamond mine with his friend, he sends his daughter, Sara to a boarding school taught by Miss Minchin. In the whole school, she is the richest so Miss Minchin treats her the best. Lavinia is very jealous of Sara so she teases her. Sara is a kind girl so she doesn’t talk back. Sara makes friend with Ermengarde. She too is kind and helpful. Sara’s talent is telling stories. Ermengarde likes to listen to her interesting stories. When Sara’s father dies from suffering a disease, her father’s wealth disappears so Miss Minchin doesn’t like her anymore so she makes her as a servant. Her strong character helps her to fight off her life of poverty.

My favourite character is Sara. She is kind because when Lavinia teases her, she doesn't argue back. Instead she ignores her. Sara is very strong in her character because when all her rich things are taken away from her and she becomes a servant, she doesn’t complain.

I  recommend this book to 10 to 15 years of age. It is because this book is very sad when she is made as a servant. I encourage you to read it because you will enjoy it.

Mythical Lost City Discovered in Honduras

On 1928, Charles Lindbergh, an aviator and an anthropologist; and W.D Strong were the first people to talk about the ‘White City’. Theodore Monde’s claim was believable because he brought back artefacts from the mythical city. But he died before he discovered the exact location.

The problem was that Theodore Monde died before he knew the exact place. So the researchers had to find the ‘White City’. Steve Elkins and Bill Benenson overcame this because they formed a group of experts to find the exact place. This group included archaeologists from the U.S. and Honduras, a LiDAR engineer, an anthropologist and even British soldiers who were trained  jungle survival skills.

They found 52 artefacts buried underground. Chris Fisher found an extraordinary head of a statue which was believed to be were-jaguar. Archaeologist Oscar Neil Cruz from the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History estimated that the artefacts were from the year A.D. 1000 to 1400.

The Terrible thing that happened to Barnaby Brocket

This story is about a boy named Barnaby Brocket. He had a brother called Henry, a sister called Melanie and parents Alistair, the dad and Eleanor, the mum. The family wanted to live a normal life. When Eleanor gave birth to Barnaby, she was shocked. Barnaby floated into the ceiling and bumped his head into it. Having a baby that floated wasn’t normal. Eleanor gave him a very heavy rack sack to keep him on the ground. One day when he turned eight years old, his parents had a plan. The plan was to let him go. So the following day, Eleanor brought Barnaby to a random place and cut off his rack sack and soon he floated up and up and up.

In the story,  he met lots of people and when he finally reached back home he went to the hospital. After a few days, he went loose from the hospital bed and floated up, up and up again.

My favourite character was Barnaby Brocket. He was very courageous because he knew he had to get back to his family even though they didn’t want him. The author described him as an extraordinary boy that floated and couldn’t stop floating.

There was a conflict when his parents argued whether to let him go or not. Eleanor wanted to let him go but,  Alistair didn’t want to let him go. It didn’t take long till Alistair finally made up his mind to let Barnaby go.

The author wanted the readers to give the message of believing in self. If you don’t believe in yourself you won’t be able to do what do think you might be able to do.

I enjoyed this book very much. The author used fascinating adjectives to describe Barnaby Brocket. I recommend this to 10+.   I also recommend this book to people that like fantasy books. 

                                                                                                                                                     

Kowhai Trees

Kowhai is one of the most well-known natives trees in New Zealand. They can grow up to 25m tall. Kowhai trees are usually found in forests, coastal cliff faces.The native birds like Tui, bellbird, kaka and the New Zealand pigeons likes to land on the Kowhai trees. Kowhai trees have small leaves and young branches. Sometimes it gets twisted and tangled. All kinds of Kowhai trees produce seed pods and inside the pods there are yellow or brown seeds.The trees are endemic.

Kowhai trees can be found in the North Island and the South Island. Kowhai trees are now rare because of the clearance of agriculture and farms.

Smurfette book review

The book ‘Smurfette’ is about an evil sorcerer, Gargamel who wanted revenge on the smurfs. So one day, Gargamel was making a girl smurf called Smurfette because he knew the smurfs will go crazy with her, but actually none of the smurfs liked her. When she realised she was very fat, she cried in bed.  But then Papa smurf changed her more prettier in his science room. So when she came out all the smurfs fell in love with her. But when that very day happened, everything went wrong and she said she was from Gargamel. The next day, she was judged and became innocent. But she sacrificed herself for them and every smurf was crying.

I like this book because the smurfs are cute and the book is very funny, especially when Gargamel tries to get revenges on the smurfs.

I recommend this book to all ages, especially to people that can read small and miniature words.

Judy Moody book review

Rocky Zang in the amazing Mr. Magic

This book is about a girl called Judy Moody. She has a friend called Rocky that does amazing magic tricks. He could make a hankie change colors, he could make a flower out of thin air and he could make his own thumb fly across the room. He really wanted to succeed a card trick too.

So Judy becomes his assistant for magic tricks. But when Rocky had a magic trick show only stink came along. But then Judy ruins all his magic tricks like trying to turn a peanut butter jar into a jelly jar but Judy accidentally put ketchup on. The trick that succeeded was making Stink run away. But when he disappeared the dollar that Judy had Judy was so disappointed that she started to call him names. As soon as she reached into her pockets she found it. So Judy and Rocky were friends again!  

I like this book because the characters were so convincing and that the setting grabbed the audience’s attention.

I highly recommend this to people of all ages because it is a funny and interesting book so I hope you enjoy it!

Geronimo Stilton save the whale book review

                         

This book ‘Geronimo Stilton-save the white whale’ is about a gentlemouse called Geronimo Stilton. It all began one morning he was in his office when he met Petunia Paws, his crush. Then Petunia thought of going to the Bays of Whales and Benjamin and Bugsy wanted to come too. So Geronimo rang miss Sweetcakes but instead a gruff voice answered the phone.He said it will cost one thousand dollars! Geronimo didn’t want to be a cheap sneak in front of Petunia she they went to the Bay of Whales. He had a Miserable Vacation but at evening they went out to the beach and suprisely they saw a EXTREMELY RARE WHITE HUMPBACK WHALE. So they called the Rescue team and soon the whale was back in the water.

I like this book because they used word art in the book. I highly recommend this to all ages.

   

Creepella Von Cacklefur book review

The Thirteen Ghosts

This book is about a mouse called Creepella Von Cacklefur. She has a pet bat named Bitewing and a niece called Shivereen. Creepella Von Cacklefur is writing a chilling story for the Shivery News.  So she went to see Grandpa Frankenstein. He told her to go to the Squeakspeare Mansion to interview some ghosts. She took Bitewing and Shivereen with her. When they got there, they met a mouse called Billy Squeakspeare. He owns the Squeakspeare Mansion, but he was too scared to go in it. So Creepella Von Cacklefur, Shivereen and Bitewing took Billy into the mansion. They went up and down, around and about. Billy always fainted. But when they went inside the Linen Closet, they saw twelve ghosts, a ghost spider and a ghost dog. But then they find another ghost which makes thirteen ghosts. She interviewed the thirteenth ghost which was named William Squeakspeare. The next day Creepella Von Cacklefur published her article. The article was the best-selling in New Mouse City.

I like this book because once you start reading it you get stuck into the book. I recommend this book to all ages but I don’t think scaredy cats should read it. ENJOY!

                                    Mysteries according to Humphrey

The book ‘Mysteries according to Humphrey’ is about a hamster called Humphrey which was a classroom pet in room 26. It all started when Mrs Brisbane,the teacher of room 26 was reading a book about a detective, Sherlock Holmes. But the next morning, Mrs Brisbane wasn’t there so Humphrey was on mysterious case. Instead of Mrs Brisbane, a red haired man went in and soon Humphrey knew that he was the supply teacher. He was called Mr Edonopolous but the class called him Mr E instead. Humphrey wanted to know what happened to Mrs Brisbane. But to realise that Mrs Brisbane was not there because she broke her ankle when she was getting a treat for him.  

The best part is the setting because the setting was nicely described using the W words.

I highly recommend this to kids, tweens and elders because it is a great book full of surprises!
