Kowhai is one of the most well-known natives trees in New Zealand. They can grow up to 25m tall. Kowhai trees are usually found in forests, coastal cliff faces.The native birds like Tui, bellbird, kaka and the New Zealand pigeons likes to land on the Kowhai trees. Kowhai trees have small leaves and young branches. Sometimes it gets twisted and tangled. All kinds of Kowhai trees produce seed pods and inside the pods there are yellow or brown seeds.The trees are endemic.
Kowhai trees can be found in the North Island and the South Island. Kowhai trees are now rare because of the clearance of agriculture and farms.
